Ricki Stardust

When Audrey emailed me about painting their Wheaten, Ricki, I was ecstatic. Why? Because David Bowie was their inspiration. Ricki was described to me as an excited girl, full of nervous energry...always bouncing around with her huge personality. They described her as a David Bowie fan girl, recovering from years on the groupie bandwagon. A little crazy, a little shell shocked, a lot of fun. With this in mind, Ricki Stardust was born.

Custom Watercolours: Hudson & Chelsea

You may have already seen it--the adorable viral video of Hudson, Chelsea, and their wedding guests shot by Danielle Rivera and styled by the amazing Sara Murray from Confetti & Co.-- but I'm excited to share today some images of my contribution to the event #hudsonloveschelsea.

So many great vendors came together and donated their time and services to this event with the hopes of creating something to make people smile. My watercolour portraits of Hudson & Chelsea were incorporated beautifully into the invitations by Ashley from Hello, Bird and were also featured next to Ashley's calligraphy on the place cards, cake topper, and wedding favors (custom dog treats from Amelie's Bark Shop).

Hanging behind the beautifully styled dessert table were portraits I had painted previously of Hudson and Chelsea. And, of course, that dog friendly cake from Saylormade didn't go to waste; the day ended with the pups digging in for a tasty snack.

Yesterday morning was spent wrapping my latest commission for delivery. I carefully folded hand-torn vellum and sealed it with a "P&S" sticker, then finished off the process by delicately wrapping the painting with hand stamped brown kraft paper. With a final flourish of twine, Hudson the dachshund's painting was safely hidden from sight. Wrapping complete, I hopped on my bike--painting and camera in tow--to deliver Hudson's painting.

Hudson is a miniature dachshund with a big personality. He's quite the charmer and when his owners told me this, and explained their personal style, I knew exactly where to go with their painting. Drawing inspiration from legends like Frank Sinatra, Hudson's painting quickly appeared on my canvas. Topped with a fedora (detailed with the same pattern as Hudson's own collar!) and looking smug in a bow tie, Hudson's cheeky personality came to life on canvas.
